Escapes, inspirations and more with Oh Seven Days

1.Tell us briefly about the identity and philosophy of your brand?

OhSevenDays is a mindfully made womenswear label creating sustainable staples from deadstock/surplus fabrics based in Istanbul. Essentially, we make slow fashion from fast fashion’s leftovers. We offer Monday to Sunday dressing made from ethical beginnings to sustainable endings.

2.How is it inspired and influenced by the cornerstones of the store this summer, craft, culture & creativity?

Each collection draws upon inspiration from my environment. Whether it be a trip I took or a landscape I particularly fell in love with. Although my design phase works slightly differently than many designers as we upcycled our fabrics. Our colour palette and the textures featured in our collections heavily rely on what we can salvage from deadstock.

3.How is it tied to travel?

Travel is a huge inspiration for me as it’s one of my great passions. I’m always taking photos and registering the colours and textiles I come across whenever I’m on a trip. I also design for versatility and aim to ensure our collections can work within any holiday wardrobe.

4.For what reasons do you travel?

My number one reason to travel is to experience new cultures and expand my understanding of the world. Second to that, it’d have to be for the food!

5.What are some of your most unforgettable escapes that have shaped and inspired the identity of your brand?

Other than the huge inspiration I gained from my childhood in Canada, adolescence in Australia, professional beginnings in London, and now my life in Turkey, I think some highlight escapes I’ve had are Tokyo, Rwanda and Kyrgystan.

6.Where do you search for inspiration?

Everywhere and anywhere really! Can be from nature, travel, landscape, and of course vintage fashion.

7.What’s one piece from your own collection that you always bring on travels?

I always pack our Cloud Jumpsuit as it’s the most comfortable airplane outfit!

8.What about a piece that’s perfect for a holiday on the Turkish riviera?

Our Winona Dress without a doubt!

9.What are some of your favorite escapes here at home, hidden gems in Turkey?

We recently hiked some of the Lycian Way and fell in love with some of the villages along the way, Faralya was a real favourite! I also loved traveling to the far eastern part of the country and seeing Kars and Ani Ancient City. Visiting the Yayla’s near Rize was also an incredible experience.

10.Share with us one of your favorite travel memories or anecdotes.

My ultimate favorite travel moment was when we hiked through to jungle in Uganda to see the wild Gorillas. I’m talking FULL body chills! I’ll never forget that moment for the rest of my life.

11.Favorite travel film or book?

Probably Shantaram, I’m hoping they make it into a movie!

12.Where are you dreaming of escaping to next?

I’m eager to get to Iceland and Colombia!

13.What does traveling mean to you?

Travel is a super important part of my life. I met my husband and moved to Istanbul and started my own brand all thanks to a 12-month backpacking tour I did in my early 20s. I continue to value traveling the world and learning more about this crazy planet we live on!
