In loving memory of Ayla Emiroğlu.

Maçakızı has always been more than a place. A home, a gathering of people, a particular way of welcoming the world with warmth, generosity and an unmistakable joy for life.

At the heart of it all was Ayla Emiroğlu, whose spirit and vision shaped the Maçakızı we know and love.

For us at ESCAPE, returning to Maçakızı summer after summer means being part of something very special. A place with a history, a soul and a sense of belonging that continues to bring people together.

We remember her with love and gratitude, and send our deepest affection to the entire Maçakızı family.

Her spirit lives on in the place she created, and in all those who have come to call it home.

With love,
The ESCAPE Team

#74EscapeHotelPicks — Faros Villa, Serifos, Greece

On the southwestern edge of Serifos, Faros Villa sits almost alone above the bay of Megalo Livadi, where the island’s rugged landscape falls away into the Aegean. The property’s two historic residences feel embedded within their surroundings: stone, shaded verandas, simple interiors and views stretching out across the water. Days here belong largely to the landscape — a stone path leads down to the sea, another towards a quiet sunset spot at the edge of the bay, while the remnants of Megalo Livadi’s mining past give this otherwise elemental setting another layer of history.

Two historic residences of special architectural interest: the five-bedroom Faros Villa and the smaller, one-bedroom Faros Guest House, partly built into the hillside.

For an unusually private way to experience Serifos, where stone, sea and landscape are allowed to do most of the talking.

Follow the stone path down for a swim straight from the rocks. Wander through Megalo Livadi and the remnants of Serifos’s historic mining settlement, then return to the point of the bay as the sun goes down.
