A wonderful week hosting @lodental_official at the first of ESCAPE POP UP STORIES ❄️

Where Roman sartorial elegance meets Austrian history & Alpine heritage, LodenTal by Rome-based designer Andrea Provvidenza, breathes new life into an old legend, with luxury capes and coats in contemporary cuts and bold colors.

For centuries Loden coats kept alpine hunters and herdsmen warm and dry through the harsh Austrian winters. The iconic and versatile, extra-fine woven merino wool fabric was then adopted by noblemen and became alla moda in Italy by the 20th century.

Inspired by the classic loden coats worn by three generations of men in his family, each a true Italian gentleman, Rome-based designer Provvidenza embarked on a journey to revive this iconic style for younger generations.

Provvidenza sources from Leichtfried, an Austrian mill that has been making loden since 1884, producing the fabric from 100% extra-fine merino wool in untraditionally bold colors. This “new” loden is lightweight, warm and completely waterproof. The fabric is then sent to LodenTal’s atelier in Naples to be expertly tailored into garments that remain traditional in design, if more contemporary in cut. Where the beautiful outwear truly stands out is the inner lining. While the exteriors are created in classic hues like charcoal or olive, the double-faced coats open to reveal delightful flashes of bright pumpkin or imperial purple.
