A Solo Trip in Bali

What is your most unforgettable escape? Bali.

With how many people did you travel with? I often travel alone but meet up with people at the location.

What was the purpose of your travel? A lay-over on my trip to Sydney – best lay-over of my life.

Where did you stay? In a private villa in Seminyak.

What did you most like about the trip? The temples.

Could you share an unforgettable memory about the trip? Watching the sunset over Tanah Lot.

Your most surprising find during the trip? The traffic! I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so bad.

Favourite restaurant you have tried during your trip? Mexicola – it’s mexican food, in Indonesia, but totally makes sense when you’re in there.

What are the must tries of the city? It’s worth spending a few days in Ubud – trying to see all the historic, religious and Instagram sights in all that traffic is a nightmare.

Make sure you find time to just chill by your infinity pool over the jungle and relax.

Any hidden gems you could whisper to us? Get a driver who is local to Bali and knows exactly where he is going – it will save you so much time.

Would you go back? Yes – perhaps at a different time of year or to a different part of the Island.

Could you list a few of your favorite finds you came back with? I was heading to Burning Man a week after my Bali trip so I was on the look-out for rainbow crochet items and boy, did the Bali markets provide!

A lot of places will bump up the prices for tourists so be sure to haggle hard.

Any tips that might be useful to know before going there? DON’T DRINK THE WATER! Don’t brush your teeth with it, don’t wash your fruit with it. You WILL get Bali belly (I did) which feels like never-ending food poisoning. There is a Chinese medicine the locals take that you should ask for at a pharmacy as soon as you get symptoms and it will cure you instantly (I found out about this much too late!).

Mosquito repellent during the day is a MUST as Ubud is built around a network of rivers.

If you do go to the Monkey Sanctuary don’t bring anything of value you don’t want the monkeys to steal!

Next stop you would like to visit? Anywhere in the Caribbean.

What does travelling mean to you? Learning.
