Tulum, Mexico

Traveler: Evren Doğançay – Buying Manager

What is your most unforgettable escape? Tulum-Mexico in recent years.

What was the purpose of your travel? Relaxing and spending quality time with my friend.

With how many people did you travel? Just me and my best friend.

Where did you stay? Zamas Hotel, a super laid-back spirited ocean front Hotel with plenty of hammocks and amazing fresh sea-food.

What did you most like about the trip? The positive and relaxed pace of Tulum just draws you in. It’s a true spiritual experience.

Could you share an unforgettable memory about the trip? The most special memory was actually an emotion I hadn’t had in my adulthood before. As I said it’s all about the relaxed spirit in Tulum. It just takes you in and you experience everything on another level. We met three other guests from our hotel at the beach the first day of our trip. It’s difficult to explain but I think we were all constantly in an emotional state like children, really pure and receptive and just present in that moment… By the end of the first day it felt like we had been dearest friends our entire lives…

Your most surprising find during the trip? I found these paintings of cabanas and local sites of the area by a local artist called Tasso and I instantly fell in love with them. I bought three of them which are all on my mother’s living rooms wall right now.

Favorite restaurants or food you have tried during your trip? Although there are a lot of good restaurants in Tulum, Hartwood was a favorite. Their ribs are incredible and so are the cocktails. Besides great food and drinks Hartwood has all together a beautiful ambiance. Be prepared for at least an hour wait as they don’t take reservations.

What is the must tries of the city? I would recommend rent bicycles and exploring the coast line. It’s beautiful. I would also recommend go diving or snorkeling. The colors under water are gorgeous and super relaxing.

Any hidden gems you could whisper to us? A lazy day at Posada Margeritha Hotel & Restaurant at the ocean front…

Would you go back? I sure will!

Could you list a few of your favorite finds you came back with? These can be anything from traditional finds to airport finds to hotel creams! The Coqui Coqui Perfumery is located inside the Coqui Coqui Hotel, right on the beach.  Each scent is very unique and unlike any other perfume you know of. The scents are inspired by the exotic flora and scents of the Yucatan Peninsula and have earthy and floral smells. It’s really difficult to pick a favorite. I brought back a few different ones as I couldn’t decide. Also, the rustic atmosphere and chic design of the Coqui Coqui Hotel is very romantic and worthwhile checking out. I also collected a bunch of the glittery Mexican match boxes with ‘Day of the Dead’ designs that you can find at any gift shop.

Any tips that might be useful to know before going there? No need to pack any fancy clothing. It’s very laid back… Can get chilly at night… Make sure to bring a good book! Be prepared for aggressive mosquitos and pack some strong repellents!

Next stop you would like to visit? Marrakesh!
