Escape with Margherita Maccapani Missoni

1. Do you have a summer ritual?

At the end of a beach day I just rinse my hair and put some conditioner on – I like the wilder vibe

2. Where is it you escape to habitually for true downtime? How long have you been going there and why?

I’ve been going to Sardinia since I was 4, we have a family compound and spend quality time amongst cousins.

3. What does that place mean to you?

It feels like home.

4. What’s a new summer escape you embarked on this summer?

I’m currently in Salento, Puglia, with my boys. I hadn’t been here since I was 15 and I’m falling back in love with it.

5. Do you have an anecdote or unforgettable memory to share?

My mother always used to throw whimsical parties for my sister’s birthday. All our friends came and we would lay in the garden on carpets and cushions.

6. What about the best to: do, see, stay, eat and drink at this particular escape?

Do climb Tavolara island, and try to see a traditional festival with masks inland. Stay at Hotel Cala di Volpe to experience Jacques Couelle’s 60s’ Sardinia vibe, eat Culurgiones and drink Mirto after dinner!

7. Who are your favorite summer escape travel partners and why?

Summer is for my children and I love it if my parents or siblings are around.

8. What’s your ultimate escape soundtrack?

90s Italian hits.

9. What about this summer’s read?

Elsa Morante’s L’isola di Arturo

10. And what film do you return to for the ultimate summer cinema experience?

Dirty Dancing!

11. What does escape mean to you?

Pareo in the evening

12. Where are you hoping to head next?

Lamu, Kenya.
